Love Letters and Lessons: Part 1 In A Series

AnotherGirlAndHerPupS.jpg

Last month we asked our readers to share their love of dog with us by answering two questions,  “What have you learned from the dogs in your life?” and “What would you say to your dog if you were to write a letter to him or her? (Assuming dogs could read!)

The response to our survey was overwhelming and insightful (thank you!) and gives a tiny glimpse into the wonderfully complex and beautiful relationship between two very different species that spend their lives together. Below is the first in a series of posts where we share our readers’ responses with you. Enjoy!

“My darling boy, I don't know if you know how very much I love you. More than anyone else in my life--my husband, my parents and siblings, my human friends--you show me every day that I am loved. You think that I take care of you, and I do, and love doing it, but you also take care of me. You keep my heart soft, you bring joy and laughter into my life every day, you take me away from my worries and remind me of what's real and what matters. When I'm sad, you make me smile, you keep me healthy by making me exercise every day, you give me something to do when I'm bored, you make me feel safe. You're just so much fun! I love to just look at you-so shiny and sleek and beautiful. I love to see you enjoying your food. I love to see you excited about learning some new game. I love our roly-poly snuggle romps on the bed every morning. I love the way you love to please me. I love that you know that I'm yours forever.”

“Thanks for being my friend and confidant. Thanks for trusting me and loving me unconditionally. Thanks so much for the happy tail wagging, the turning in circles greeting, even when I've only been gone a short time. Thanks for making me feel so special. Thanks for being my pup, my buddy, my best friend. Thanks for accepting the cats in the house.”

“To my dearest dog,
Please understand that I am aware that I’m not great at making my self understood when I would like you to do something for me, however I will endeavour to learn from you, as you have no trouble making me understand and obey when you would like me to;
a) go for a walk
b) let you outside
c) move the cat off your bed
d) get your ball from under the lounge
e) let you under the doona when it's cold
f) THIS LIST COULD BE ENDLESS

In all seriousness, thank you for all your canine curiosities, your unending loyalty and contagious exuberance. Even long after your gone your memory will still bring me joy.
Love always your owner”

“Dear Dog,
Thank you for being so loving. I don't know how you do it but you are always smiling and I love how your tail goes wild when I talk to you. You make me smile. Coming home to see you everyday at lunch makes my day so much better!!”

“Thank you! You have helped me become a better human being with better feelings about my self and the entire world!”
