Extreme Nose Work

It's the final few weeks of the year, so the BBC World Service is running some of their older radio stories. This is a good thing, because I missed a great one in October.

Tucker, a lab who hates water (I know!), has been trained to find whale poop:

Check out Tucker's reward for finding the poop.

Tucker isn't the first dog to do this, I found a story from 2006 about the dog that seems to be his predecessor, a Rottie named Fargo. (His name predates Eureka, for those of you that were wondering.)

Unfortunately the search function on the BBC website is well nigh worthless, so I can't find the audio. It seems like it will be available tomorrow, although the story seems to have originated in October? It may be related to the fact that people in the U.S. don't deserve the ability to use the iPlayer.

I did find this un-embeddable audio slideshow though.

I guess you would use this stuff as an odor? Otherwise you would need one hell of a box.
