Well, we did it!  My husband and I decided to add another member to our canine family, bringing our number back up to five.  Unfortunately, we lost “our girl”, a Weimaraner named Laila, last November after a long battle with cancer.  Despite still sharing our home with four male dogs, the house seemed so quiet without her.  Eight months after her passing, we had settled into an easy, comfortable, if not slightly boring, routine. 

So you’ve decided to add to your canine family!  Congratulations! Now that you have gotten this far, there are even more decisions to be made. You’ll need to choose your next dog very carefully.  Hasty decisions can lead to heartbreak for everyone, so take your time.  I don’t think you can go wrong with making a thoughtful decision, unless of course you are on a sinking ship!

Hopefully, after reading Part 1 of this series, you are getting the dog, not just as a buddy for your current dog, but also for yourself.  So, you will need to consider the needs of your current dog as well as selecting a dog that will meet your needs and expectations.

Living among my multiple dog family is a joy for me.  I can watch them playing and communicating with each other for hours and never tire.  My five furry companions are funny, fascinating and even wonderful teachers, but they are also a ton of hard work!  Thankfully, I have a husband who is equally devoted to our multiple doggie home and works with me to do all the things that need to be done in a day.
